The Toowoomba Flexi School Peace Pole Ceremony occurred today with special guests attending from Rotary Club of Toowoomba East, The Older Mens Network inc, Friends of Flexi, Centenary Heights State High School (CHSHS) Head of Department English and International Kathleen Hannant and CHSHS EAL/D Coordinator Kirrily Scarff.
Our Peace Pole is placed at the entrance to the Glen Postle Intergenerational Mentoring Hub, being one of 4-Peace Poles located within the local area and one of 100 Peace Poles around Australia. A Peace Pole is an internationally recognised symbol of the hopes and dreams of the entire human family, bearing the message "May Peace Prevail on Earth" in different languages on each of its four sides.
Special thanks to Marlene Charles for initiating the Peace Pole project at Flexi and also past President of the Rotary Club of Toowoomba East, Tony Jarroush for managing the project and installation of the Peace Pole at Flexi.
Thank you to the CHSHS students Michael, Jiang, Hadya, Delray and Flexi students Jackson, Shanyce and Dylan who were involved in our ceremony. Students spoke in their first language, reciting the phrase ‘May Peace Prevail on Earth’ which was written on the peace pole in English, Dinka, Mandarin Chinese and Kurdish Kurmanji.
Today's event was also our community's acknowledgement and contribution to national Harmony Week and its message of everyone belongs.
