Our Guidance Officers work with students, teachers and parents to assist in a broad range of areas relating to success at school. These include wellbeing, vocational pathways, learning and development concerns, and development of intervention strategies to assist students gain the most from their schooling experience.

Guidance Officers may work directly with the student, or with the students’ teachers, support personnel, family, other specialists, or professionals from other agencies. Depending on the issues to be resolved, and the age of the student, this will vary from student to student. Guidance Officers are regularly called upon to provide counselling, psycho-educational assessment and individual support and recommendations to support students’ needs within the school setting.

Within our school, the Guidance Officers work closely with the Careers team, to provide a joint approach to careers pathways and development. As a team, they work with students to explore possible pathways through school and beyond, and help students to understand their strengths and areas of interest, as a way to further develop skills for the future. Students are encouraged to explore a range of options, and pursue work experience to help shape their career development understanding.

As part of the Support Services team, the Guidance Officers also work collaboratively with other members of the team to meet the educational, social and emotional needs of students. The Support Services team meets weekly to monitor the needs of individual students and plan a range of programs that will benefit students throughout the school.
